This was the fourth year the Henry Miller Memorial Library in Big Sur, California has played home to the two-day WOODSIST Festival, the creation of Brooklyn band Woods.
If you’re not a big fan of music festivals, WOODSIST Festival is the music festival for you. Selling only 250 tickets, it would be better called an intimate gathering and, nestled in the California Redwoods, thought of more as a spiritual retreat.
Attendees were treated to six bands each day, bringing blankets and snacks for a relaxing afternoon in the sun. Weirdo folk legend Michael Hurley was a special treat on the first day, flurries of leaves falling behind him as he plucked and sang brightly. Alex Bleeker and the Freaks, MV & EE, Little Wings, and Real Estate stood apart in their performance and sound, complimenting the natural, earthy setting.
WOODSIST Festival offers a unique chance to enjoy the work of talented musicians in the heart of breathtaking Big Sur. It is unlike any other festival. I’d recommend it to anyone who has the chance to attend in the coming years.
