Nearly a year after the release of their impressive debut, Nashville’s Wild Cub is back with a new single, “Blacktide.

Formed originally by the duo of singer/songwriter/guitarist Keegan DeWitt and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Bullock, the band is now a 5-piece, known for their tight, energetic, and electrifying live shows. This is not the kind of music you would expect to hear coming out of Nashville, but there is a budding indie rock scene developing there, and Wild Cub breaks out of that traditional Nashville mold and takes their retro, new wave influenced dance rock in a modern, exciting new direction.

“Blacktide” opens with twinkling synths, but pretty quickly, a Peter Hook-like riff lets you know this is going somewhere heavier and more serious. This is dance-pop as it should be; energetic and captivating, with a sadness and longing to the lyrics. It’s music that moves you both physically and emotionally. As the synthesizers sparkle and the relentless beats propel the song along, DeWitt’s impassioned vocals yearn for lost love, even as he resigns himself to that loss, blaming it on the fact that “We were young.”.

The new single is available on iTunes and streaming on Spotify. The album, Youth, is also available on their Bandcamp page. Dates for their in-progress North American Summer Tour are up their Facebook page.
