Bossanova dream pop quartet Trails and Ways just announced a new track, Lost, a Frank Ocean-cover in Portuguese which gives the original some serious competition.

The four members of Trails and Ways, Emma Oppen, Keith Brown, Ian Quirk and Hanna Van Loon, all met at Berkeley and after a post-graduation travels, they reunited and started singing and writing music together. Their music is clearly inspired by the sounds of Brazil and Spain, two of the countries where two fourths of the band members spent some soul searching time. Their debut EP Trilingual’s title is quite self-explanatory, the songs are all performed in Spanish, Portuguese and English. On the EP, which was recorded in Quirk’s bedroom, all member of the band contribute to the vocals which gives it a nice folk feel and they described their music as “pop songs of dreams and misinterpretations”. Despite the very happy sound, the band often vocalizes political themes in their lyrics.

It’s easy to be charmed by their beautiful cover of “Lost”. Trails and Ways say they’ve always felt bossanova “in its soul” and this version certainly proves them right.
