Brisbane duo, The Phoncurves, have proven that the way to our hearts is through our ears with their new single ‘Heartstrings’.
Made up of two lovely ladies, Abbie Roberts and Naomi Burrell, the Phoncurves have been perfecting their own fusion of folk-pop since 2011. The debut single off their forthcoming EP, Heartstrings is a charming coalescence of angelic layered vocals, refreshingly raw instrumentals and a knack for quirky song-writing. The song also channels the age-old feud that exists between the head and the heart. The duo admit that they wrote the song as a reminder to quit over thinking things in order to surrender themselves to the moment. In contrast to a number of musicians, Phoncurves recorded their vocals prior to the instrumentals, hence why the layered harmonies act as such a driving force throughout the track.
After supporting Australian big wigs including the likes of Josh Pyke, Thelma Plum, Patrick James, ASTA and Paper Kites, The Phoncurves are beginning to rustle up a decent following of their own and with their sophomore EP due for release in early 2014, we hope this won’t be the last we’ll hear from these sirens.
