The Blakes, Seattle’s gritty garage rock trio, is back with a new album, called Junko. This addictive record has all the energy and swagger you’d expect from old-school rock & roll, but taken to a new level.

Listen to “Chernobyl”, the lead track on the album, for an example of their rough, distorted, swampy style of rock, elevated by an impossibly catchy guitar riff and the vocal harmonies of brothers Garnet and Snow Keim, all propelled by the steady, powerful beats of drummer, Bob Husak.

The songs on Junko would be equally at home at a festival or in the darkest, smokiest nightclub. One foot is firmly planted in the garage rock and britrock of the 60s/70s, while the other dances between grunge and the blues; The Beatles and The White Stripes; punk and pop. This sounds as though it would result in a scattered sounding album, but the result is a surprisingly focused display of down and dirty, raw, energetic, rock & roll.

Junko is The Blakes’ 4th full-length album and is available on their website. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
