Vancouver’s Shimmering Stars delivers a new track, “Shadow Visions”, the first single from their forthcoming album Bedrooms of the Nation.
According to the group’s Bandcamp, Bedrooms of the Nation was “recorded in fits and spurts throughout 2011-2013” and this track represents “the sonic and stylistic shift of the record”. That transformation is perceptible early in “Shadow Visions”, the crystal guitar tones giving way to a darker, muddier blend of instruments and far off, angry vocals. The two forces battle, eventually striking a balance. Despite that, the undertones of turmoil linger even after the track ends. Throughout the alternating bits of hard and soft, a pop sensibility maintains, the melody ultimately driving the uneasy sound.
The exact release date is TBD, but keep an eye out for Bedrooms of the Nation in early 2014 on Almost Musique/Hardly Art.
