Based on the latest track from School of Night‘s upcoming EP, Darby Cicci (also of The Antlers) will deliver a synth rich album without forgetting the importance of including a few organic elements in the mix.
“Fire Escape” feels immediately deep without seeming muddled or cloudy. Rounded horns are paired with metallic, fluttering tones, giving way to the down tempo beat somewhere deep beneath the surface. The complexity waxes and wanes, making room for clean, full vocals that skim the surface, hovering above the other layers of the track. Somewhere along the way, a repetitive guitar riff is added, nicely contrasting the overall synthetic sound and closing out the slightly haunted experience.
