In case you weren’t aware, Savages are amazing live. We caught them at Primavera Sound in Barcelona yesterday.
Few would argue that Savages are one of the most exciting and certainly most talked-about bands of the year so far. On top of that, the release of their debut full-length earlier this month emphatically justified the hype surrounding this London four-piece. Silence Yourself is a 38-minute collection of post-punk thrills that leaves us gasping for air (in a good way).
However, the hype existed long before this album, or the EP and singles from last year. It was their early live performances that captured the imagination of a willing and awestruck audience. Even during an in-studio live performance, like the one for KEXP below, their intensity is palpable. Their songs command your attention. None more so, in my opinion, than Gimme Indie favorite and playlist staple, She Will. I would almost suggest skipping ahead to 07:27 first and just watch. Fay Milton’s drumming is especially massive here.
And to those that managed to catch Savages at Primavera last night, like our founder Tommy… well, let’s just say I’m jealous. And if you didn’t manage to see them, or didn’t make it to Primavera at all, like me, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for the latest from Barcelona. Tommy’s got it covered!
