Part Time may have started out as a solo side project for San Francisco musician, David Speck, but has turned into a full-time band with a newly released album, PDA.

The project began as a diversion while Speck was playing in indie rock bands in Austin. Leaving behind the loud and boisterous rock & roll, Part Time’s style is hazy, lo-fi dream pop with retro sounding synth loops, jangly guitars, dreamy vocals and plenty of pop hooks that can really get under your skin. On the opening track of the album, “I Want to Go”, fuzzy guitars reminiscent of Felt in the early 80s kick things off. Hook after hook keep reeling you in, and the vocals recall another master of sardonic pop, Terry Hall.

This is witty synth pop with a nod to 80s electro and psychedelic pop. The songs are romantic, cynical, satirical, and at times, just plain goofy. Speck tells his stories his way, with abundant charm, humor, and personality. The record is available on Mexican Summer Records, iTunes and streaming on Spotify.
