Boston’s Magic Man released their debut EP earlier this fall, and if the picture above looks familiar, that’s because our favorite track, “Waves”, was featured in our Playlist Update a few weeks back.

As the days get colder for those of us in the north, we need a reminder of summer, and the upbeat, summery sounds of this EP is just the right fix to keep those winter doldrums at bay. For you folks in the southern hemisphere, this is one to put on your beach playlists. Three of the songs have been remastered from earlier demos, and the whole EP is infused with a bright, infectious production style that is instantly captivating and makes you want to jump up and dance.

This all may sound like these guys are merely a party/dance band, but there is something more to them. While they are definitely a synthesizer-heavy pop band, those synths are backed by a tight, powerful rhythm section that gives them a more weighty sound. Listen to “Waves”, and you can also hear a soulful earnestness in how singer Alex Caplow delivers his lyrics. This is more than just bright and energetic synth-pop; it is also heartfelt and sincere music made by people who clearly are loving what they are doing.

The EP is streaming on Spotify, Soundcloud, and Bandcamp. (There are also some cool remixes on Soundcloud – check them out too). It is available for download from iTunes, Google Play, & Amazon. Follow them on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, and check their website for upcoming tour dates – and a free download too!
