Warm and rising, “Chaturanga” is a welcome listen as the winter cold settles in. It’s one of four on the new EP from Hilang Child, musical moniker of London-based Ed Riman.

While the opening lyrics “In winter embers glowed on the dying ground / We lay down, alone on the coldest stone” may conjure up an icy scene or chilly sensation, the rich and rounded piano chords create a cozy nook of sound to curl up in. Riman’s vocals are tender and bright, swelling alongside the keys rather than sitting atop of them. Feeling both optimistic and melancholy, the track blossoms beautifully and will leave you wanting more.

The EP First Writings is available now on Third Rock Recordings.
