Nearly a year after their first single “Wings” came out, Brooklyn’s synthpop five-piece Haerts release their long-awaited debut EP Hemiplegia today.
I have to admit, I had not listened to (or even heard of) Haerts until Gimme Indie founder Tommy pointed them out to me a few weeks ago. And I can’t imagine a better introduction to this band than the first song I heard, “All The Days”, the bombastic last song on Hemiplegia and my clear-cut favorite.
(If you don’t have Spotify, scroll down for a few tracks from the EP on Soundcloud.)
All four tracks of this excellent EP, which includes last year’s “Wings“, are perfectly structured for front woman Nini Fabi’s soaring, emotive voice. Reminiscent of how Zola Jesus’s singing hypnotizes the listener, Fabi’s voice lifts Haerts’ synth-heavy, Fleetwood Mac-esque pop songs to vertigo-inducing heights. And I think this is particularly effective on “All The Days” and “Hemiplegia”.
Remember, this EP is merely a tasty little amuse bouche, if you will. Keep an eye out for their debut full length expected later this year. You can follow Haerts on Facebook, Twitter, and Soundcloud.
