With their insanely catchy latest single “Summer Reign”, Buckinghamshire five-piece Coastal Cities show you exactly what you’ve been missing about those long, carefree summer days.
There are many things the English do well. Guitar-based indie pop is one of those things. Throw in catchy synth melodies, upbeat drums, melancholic vocals, and just the right amount of new wave nostalgia, and you’re close to what Coastal Cities have achieved on “Summer Reign”.
Of course, you’d need quite a bit of talent to pull it all off, which these five young guys from High Wycombe have done. The climax of the song is especially beautiful, hitting home the message that warm summer days make you feel or want to do things you otherwise wouldn’t, giving you something to cherish during the long wait until next year: “Summer reign, we’ll never be the same again. This is our time to change.” Youthful naivety perhaps, but it’s a sentiment I’d buy into any day of the week – especially during winter!
