Toronto-based quintet Alvvays gained notoriety in the last months after sharing only two tracks on the web. Early in 2014 they will release a self-named debut record via Royal Mountain Records, working together with the well-known Chad VanGaalen (producing) and Graham Walsh/John Agnello (mixing).
They made a name for themselves thanks to their inspired mixture of dream pop vibes and catchy melodies, combining easy listening with fine songwriting. The real core of their arrangements is in the use they make of vocal lines: listen to the voice’s melody in Adult Diversion to get an idea.
Even if the patterns they use have been over exploited in the past years (from Belle and Sebastian to Camera Obscura), the singles they shared still seem to have something to say.
Here an official video directed by Colin Medley, with tons of vintage-looking effects and low resolution filters.
Waiting to have an exact release date, we can enjoy this fuzz-pop track, hoping their debut will maintain the same standards.
