Signed to the illustrious ANTI- record label earlier this year, Columbus Ohio’s Saintseneca recently released the excellent single “Uppercutter” ahead of their upcoming LP, Dark Arc. Watch the psychedelic video below.

Led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Zac Little, Saintseneca played the DIY circuit for years, honing a unique sound that reflects this experience, as well as Little’s rural Appalachian upbringing. Their folk songs blend elements of post-punk and psychedelia with experimental acoustic instrumentation, expertly supporting towering harmonies.

I dug deep into their back catalog once I heard “Uppercutter“. While I imagine their previous recordings to reflect a rawer, more bare live sound, it seems that the band are intent on adding certain textures and layers on their new songs. As Little says, “I want us to be this minimalist acoustic folk group and I also want us to be a rock band. And I think both those feel true to who we are.”

While you eagerly await their new album Dark Arc, due out in 2014, follow Saintseneca on Facebook and Twitter. You can also hear “Uppercutter” on the latest Gimme Indie playlist.

From 7 until 20 November, they will be touring parts of USA. Keep an eye out for that if you’re in the area.
