Today Brooklyn-based duo Widowspeak released a six song 12″ that probably reveals the gloomy and mellow side of the band.

Fifth track on The Swamps EP, True Believer is a slow ballad that gently leads the listeners into cosy and velvet soundscapes. The opening guitar legato, lying on a bed of cadenced drum patterns, sustains the main structures of the track: this way the song floats like a feather all along the five minutes.

As usual, Molly Hamilton’s strongly reverberated voice gives the sensation of a heavenly sound falling from the sky. The use of a doubled background choir really increases the feeling of a wider space, supporting and emulating the main guitar riff.

With an obvious reference to Mazzy Star, this track turns the dreamy Widowspeak sound into an astonishing lullaby: evanescent and overwhelming at the same time, this is the sound of a daydream wonderland.

Waiting for a third studio record to come, we can enjoy their newest release via Captured Tracks. Perfect for a cloudy and muddy fall.
