Last night in Berlin one of the indisputable gurus in the american psychedelic scene stopped by for a freakishly mind-blowing gig.
Houston-based Indian Jewelry entered the stage at Bassy Club as a four-piece combo, starting the live set straightforwardly with one of their well-known classics.
The entire live set is eerily close to their albums atmosphere, with a massive use of guitar drones and tribal-minimal drum patterns. Their peculiar sound can ideally create a creepy and dreamlike landscape: at some point the room was filled with harsh synth buzzes, giving the idea of a vortex of razorblades spinning around.
During the concert you can clearly notice that Erika Trasher and Tex Kerschen are the outright deus ex machina of the band, even if the rhythmic section played a basic role in such a flawless way. There’s no other way to describe their presence on stage but referring to their records: as the sound is unclassifiable and amorphous, the band avoided any direct contact with the audience, focusing on the songs most of the time.
The set list basically homaged most of their discography, with a clear focus on 2012 “Peel It”. With such a choice of songs, there’s no doubt they can offer one of the most lysergic and brainwashing live experience.
