Hailing from rural Victoria, Stonefield are a quartet of sisters who have bewitched the Australian music scene with their modern twist on classic 70s rock. After spending 12 months in the studio, the Findlay sisters released their debut full-length album last Friday and it is safe to say that it was worth the wait.
Following two EPs – Through The Clove in 2010 and Bad Reality in 2012 – their latest self-titled album showcases a newfound sonic maturity. Whilst holding onto their perfected psychedelic rock jams, the sisters have also kicked things up a notch by experimenting with some previously unexplored genres under the guidance of producer Ian Davenport. Put Your Curse On Me, the debut single off the album, is a great example of this. Accompanied by Melbourne Mass Gospel Choir, the track embodies a hybrid gypsy-rock and church choir vibe that acts as an interesting contrast to the gritty vocals and powerful guitar riffs.
Not to mention, the video for this single is absolutely killer. Set in the cosmos, the clip features a rainfall of tarot cards, magic crystals and burning candles that transport you into a kaleidoscopic wonderland.
Following the release of their album, a forthcoming east-coast tour and plans to support Fleetwood Mac on their Australian tour, things are only looking up for these sisters.
