Portland trio Blouse hit the playlist this week with 90s inspired track “1000 Years” from their current LP on Captured Tracks.

This song comes straight out of brand new Blouse release: Imperium is the follow up to 2011 well-acclaimed debut album. Leaving behind synths and drum machines, on this record the band focused mostly on traditional instruments. This way they created a peculiar sound, full of dreamy atmospheres and mellow harmonies.

1000 Years shows perfectly the direction the band chose: a 90s revival soundscape that perfectly matches the sweet and charming voice of Charlie Hilton (a mix of Nico and Kim Deal). According to the trio, this tune is the core of Imperium. Indeed, It’s a good example of how the band changed in the last 2 years.

It’s quite impossible to list all the influences on this track (from R.E.M. to Inspiral Carpets) but it’s sure the band created a distinctive sound, far from being a pure replica. To make sure that it’s not a lie, listen to these four minutes of enchanting pop melodies.
