After the acclaimed debut album Cabinet of Curiosities on TroubleInMind Records, the Dutch artist Jacco Gardner is back with a brand new 7″ single out September 24th. The baroque-pop influences are still dominant as well as his particular 60s psychedelia assimilation.

The End of August is a cadenced lullaby that leads out of the summer breeze, introducing the cosy coming of Autumn. As usual, the shadow of Syd Barrett is really remarkable: the use of an opened double voice, the howling sound in the background, the hypnotic mellotron sound, the liquid atmosphere of the track and so on.

The references cover all the sixties stereotypes, from the surrealistic constructions of the LSD generation (Os MUtantes, Jefferson Airplane) to the well-calculated harmonies of the vocals (Beach Boys, Zombies). The tune flows placid and mellow with a delicate melancholic aftertaste.

Probably one of the best new acts in 2013, Jacco Gardner showed his great potential once again with this new single. Waiting for a new full length to come, it’s strongly suggested to immerse in these airy and floating pop melodies.
