North Highlands released their first new track in over a year, sharing a glimpse of what’s to come on their next album, currently in the works.
North Highlands has been largely quiet since their 2011 release of Wild One. “We’ve been in hibernation mode for almost a year now” frontwoman Brenda Malvini posted on the band’s website back in June. That has come to an end, the spell thankfully broken by the release of the new single “I’ll Do My Best”.
The new track builds on band’s signature sound – tight reverb that provides depth without meandering paired with airy vocals full of unique fluctuation and vibrato. The result is a sweet, warm track that avoids dipping into monotony.
The release party for the new 7″ at Glasslands Gallery had much the same tone. Fans danced and sang along while friends called out to the band from the audience, happy to have them back home in Brooklyn.
The band recently left for Vermont to record their new album after being offered a two-week recording residency with Guilford Sound. We anxiously await their return.
